The main challenge in the project was visually expressing PATHOS, LOGO, and ETHOS based on the theme of "zero waste" and simultaneously crafting a social media ad targeting individuals interested in Freecycle.
What visual representation would be needed to communicate the need for zero waste, including PATHOS, LOGOS, and ETHOS?
The design combines the study of environmental pollution with iconic elements that appeal to people's attention with the zero waste shop's meaning of Original-Unverpackt.
This ad uses pathos to persuade the audience to reduce plastic use. The idea is to symbolize the seriousness of plastic pollution by showing Mary grieving over the plastic trash polluting the ocean, just as Pieta grieves over the loss of her son.
The ad communicates the fact that 16 million tons of plastic packaging is thrown in the trash every year in Germany. The ocean is represented by a blue vinyl record, and the title "16 Million" refers to the 160,000 tons of trash... The red label part represents 160,000 tons, the amount of trash that has accumulated on the blue LP (the ocean). This emphasizes the severity of ocean plastic pollution.
This advertisement appeals to the viewer's conscience and moral responsibility, urging them to take part in achieving zero waste. It showcases the hands of ordinary people surrounding the zero waste icon, highlighting the viewer's awareness of the positive impact small actions can have on the community. The implication is that when individuals unite their efforts for zero waste, it can positively influence environmental pollution.
This project served as a valuable learning experience, offering insights into the art of crafting persuasive social media advertisements. The research and ideation phase not only deepened my understanding of ZERO WASTE but also played a pivotal role in steering the ad's direction. This ensured a seamless alignment with ORIGINAL UNVERPACKT's brand identity and its unwavering commitment to zero waste principles. Overall, the project enhanced my skills in creating compelling narratives that resonate effectively with target audiences.
